Last night I tore my left index finger while turning a bowl on the lathe and had to get 10 stitches at Central Vermont Hospital. S. was kind enough to drive me out and sit with me even though she has a bad cold.
I'm thinking to myself that this has to be the worst timing an injury could have. I was working yesterday to put a trailer hitch on the van so that we can tow back all of the stuff we've accumulated while in Vermont. There are Christmas gifts to make. I'm teaching the boxmaking course this weekend - my first professional teaching experience. I haven't got time for the pain, as they say.
On the other hand, (rim shot ensues) I'm trying very hard to be grateful for whatever this turn of events causes. I'm a big believer in everything happening for a reason. I received about the worst damage a shop could do short of losing a digit or more. This oops will cause things to slow down for me a bit, whether that's comfortable or not. And it means that all of the thousand things I planned to do before we head out might not get done. That's a bit of a relief, actually.
I'm typing this post with my left index finger pointed oddly at the monitor while my middle finger does double-duty on the keyboard, and I'm wondering how this holiday season is going to play out.

I hope you feel better very soon and the pain isn't too much?
Are you guys going to be in Grand Rapids at all over the holidays?
This holiday season will be what you make it to be, as the attitude we hold is the prime determinant of our perceptions (we won't let reality get in the way). By the way, your typing position sounds remarkably similar to the style I adopt without any injuries. Somehow all things will come together- trust!
Love you dude. Sorry that happened. I'm confident you will make the best of it, and that you can actually slow down a bit.
I'll say a prayer for peace and quick healing.
Jason
